Error: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed."
Original Title: Windows XP says my Network Adapter is connected, but can not reach the Internet. My internet connection, via ethernet, was working well. I restarted my computer and I could no longer reach it. I have a DSL Modem router. I ran the diagnostic tool on Internet Explorer. Per it's instruction I turned the modem/router off and back on and received the same lights, as they were previously, including the Ethernet connection and DSL link. I attempte to open the modem/router using it's IP address on Internet Explorer, but it was unable to open that either. I used the automatically obtain IP addrdess and static IP addressing and neither worked. I tried to repair the connection in the Network section in the Control Panel. I received the error message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed."My DSL modem/router appears to be functioning properly. I believe the computer has the problem. The system is currently set to automatically obtain IP address. Can you help me??

You might try resetting the TCP/IP protocol on the computer. This article explains how:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357 -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com | http://www.onenote-tips.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Ben:Thank you for your reply and trouble-shooting suggestion. I will attempt that tomorrow using the article you suggested. In regards to your question, the only changes after my inability to connect to the internet are listed above and today I ran Restore System, succesfully. I set it to restore to the day before I restarted my computer. It was just after I restarted my computer that this problem arose. I was on the Internet moments before restarting my computer and then I couldn't get back on the Internet after the restart. I restarted my computer because it had been on for weeks. I heard it is good to restart your computer periodically if you have your computer on all the time.Bob

Yes, it usually is a good idea to restart. In this odd instance it looks like the restart activated a problem. Hopefully we can get it straightened out. -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com | http://www.onenote-tips.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Ben:First, thank you for your help! It is greatly appreciated. I went to the article you suggested above. Included was "Microsoft Fix it 50199" for Resetting TCP/IP. I downloaded it onto a jump drive and installed it on my effected computer. When I restarted my computer, as directed by the program, I still could not connect to the internet, BUT if I tried to access the internet after the install without restarting - it WORKED! Something else is wrong if I get the same problem each time I restart. I also failed to tell you that when I restart or shut down I get a message: "CCSVC HST Program not Responding." It still does this after installing the above Fix. Any other ideas?Bob
